Past APTC patient–Evelyn Lokey
Most people will have a minor back problem at one time or another. Our body movements usually do not cause problems, but it’s not surprising that symptoms develop from everyday wear and tear, overuse, or injury. Back problems and injuries often occur during sports or recreational activities, work-related tasks, or home projects.
Symptoms of back injuries are varied. Some people may experience sharp sudden pain with residual muscle tightness or spasms. Others may experience dull aching pain that gradually worsens over time. Some may have difficulty sitting for prolonged periods, others are unable to stand for short durations. Left untreated, back pain may be accompanied by pain radiating into the buttocks, thigh or lower leg. At times, radiculopathy develops causing weakness in muscles or disrupted sensation, usually of the leg.
